Traditional Chinese Medicine
The theories of TCM come mainly from practice and have been continuously expanded throughout its long history.
The four classic books which were compiled 2000 years ago are the foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The book canon of Medicine summarizes and systematizes the physiology, pathology, meridians and collaterals and the prevention of diseases. Acupuncture and moxibustion were first introduced as a main treatment method in this book. It lays a primary base for the theories of TCM, a mind and body medicine (holistic medicine). Classic on Medical Problems further enriched and replenished the lacks of Canon of Medicine. The book The Herbal recorded 365 kinds of herbs in great detail with their cold or warm properties, lowering, lifting, floating, sinking actions and acid, sweet, bitter, and salty flavors. Finally, the book Treatise on Febrile Diseases and Miscellaneous Diseases analyzes and differentiates febrile diseases according to the progressive theory as well as miscellaneous diseases according to the pathological changes of viscera and bowels and their interrelations. This book set up TCM’s therapeutic principle, such as the diagnosis and treatment based on an overall analysis of signs and symptoms. The total 269 prescriptions in this book are still used in every department of TCM clinical medicine.
Today, in China and East Asia, TCM and conventional medicine are working together to serve the best interest of human's health. The herbs’ components, toxicology, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics were well defined and analyzed using modern bio-medicine technology and knowledge.
Two principle of TCM:
TCM deals with your body and your spirit in nature.
1, TCM is holistic medicine. Body, mind, spirit, climatic and environmental factors are considered to have a reciprocal relationship and given their appropriate weights in TCM. The modalities of treatment (Acupuncture, Tuina, Cupping, Chinese herbal therapy), diet (Nutrition and Dietary therapy), and exercise (Tai Chi and Qi Gong) are aimed at resolving the underlying causes of illness.
2, Personal diagnosis and treatment based on systematic analysis and the dialectic method. In its applied phenomenological approach, TCM balances the disorders by promoting our neuroimmunoendocrine network with acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, herbs and exercise.
